Couple Culture, force-fed

[migrated from myspace blog]

My thoughts from a previous post continue to be proven accurate. Why is it that a married person assumes that we single people all want to be married as well? I was asked today if I was opposed to being "set-up" on a date with the sister of someone's in-law who is moving to town. Talk about putting me in an awkward situation. I had to tell her that yes, I'm very much opposed to being set up. I guess it's better than being "fixed up." As far as I know, I'm not broken and in need of fixing.

Apparently we can now extend this mindset to the topic of children. As I was holding a 5-month-old I actually had a relative, this time, tell me, "Find yourself a big-ti***ed girl and you can have one of those of your own." Word for word. Thanks. Brilliant. Way to assume that you know what I want. Twice. In the same sentence. And get it wrong. Twice. Also, I'll take "crude" for $400, Alex.

Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a heaping helping of sarcasm, but she must have known the same people I do:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."
